Mythos x TPS Argo Boost Deluxe

March 2025 - Mick here, hello!

You might have seen prototypes of this on my board in recent months… and finally it's in production!  This amazing two-in-one, full-range boost and blendable octafuzz is a collaboration with Zach and the team at Mythos pedals, as an evolution of the much-loved Argo.

Two-In-One Clean Boost & OctaFuzz

Welcome to the Argo Boost Deluxe! It's a two-in-one full-range boost and blendable octafuzz effect for guitar.

The boost side – the red knob and right-hand switch – offers a full range boost that does all the things any great boost pedal will do. You can use to lift your clean tone into a clean amp… or you can boost into other pedals or a dirty amp for extra overdrive and distortion… or you could place it after other overdrives for a solo boost lift. You might also just love it as a super simple always-on boost for more oomph, excitement and dynamics in your core tone.

The three white knobs and the left-hand switch add in an octafuzz effect.

Originally inspired by the now classic COB fuzz pedal, Zach at Mythos made the fuzz a little more aggressive with some higher-gain transistors and made sure there's a TON of volume on tap.

The blend control enables you to have anything from a very subtle amount of octafuzz, through to full-on, fuzzed out octa mayhem.

Mick loves the Doyle Bramhall approach, but you can conjure some fantastic Hendrix and Sambora textures too.

Inside is a set-and-forget brightness boost switch for the boost side. This might be useful if you have a darker sounding guitar/amp, or if you just want it brighter! Mick likes it off, but you may well prefer it on.

MEET THE MAKERS

MYTHOS PEDALS

The vision behind Mythos is simple: create straightforward, great-sounding effects that anyone can enjoy.

Mythos Pedals was founded by Zach Broyles in 2010, born out of a passion for building pedals for himself and his friends.

Based just outside of Nashville, Tennessee, Mythos is run by a small, dedicated team of musicians who live and breathe tone. Every pedal is crafted with a deep love for guitar and sound.

Zach's journey began in the mid-2000s, when he started modifying existing effects. That curiosity quickly turned into a deeper dive—learning the ins and outs of how pedals work, and eventually designing his own circuits from the ground up.

It took a few years for Mythos to find its footing, but everything started coming together after Zach moved to Nashville and landed a job at Carter Vintage Guitars. That experience clarified his path.

By late 2017, Zach made the leap—he went all in on Mythos and turned his passion into a full-time pursuit.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

MICK SAYS...
Simple Evolution of a Modern Classic

This pedal actually came about pretty much by accident. I’d had the regular Mythos Argo on and off my board ever since it was released. It stayed on because I loved the sound, but it often came off—let’s face it, octafuzz can be a bit much for your average small bar gig.

Things changed when I had the chance to sit in on a few shows with my good friend Aynsley Lister. Bringing a full board felt like overkill, but I figured a touch of that low-blend, emotive, vocal octa-tone could work. So I plugged the regular Argo into my rig and set the Blend control to zero… and wow!

I was blown away by how great the Argo sounded as a clean boost—no octafuzz, just rich, full tone. In that moment, it went from being an occasional effect to a permanent fixture on my board. I started using it like any other full-range boost, then simply dialed in the Blend and volume when I wanted that octafuzz texture. It worked beautifully.

The next step was obvious. Zach came up with a way to streamline my whole “blend and adjust” dance with just one extra switch and knob—no bells, no whistles. Well, maybe one bell: inside, there are two internal settings to tweak the overall brightness of the boost. Set it and forget it.

And yes, I hope you like the red knob. I wanted to make sure no one—including me—could forget what it does. Turn it up, drench it in reverb, and let it rip.
