Strats, Screamers, Vibe, Wah, Fuzz & Rotary – let’s go!

Welcome to the show. It is our sincere pleasure to welcome the wonderful Philip Sayce to Schwangri-La. Philip has a unique take on high-octane blues and rock, always giving 100 per cent commitment and conviction to live shows and album releases. Since his early tenures with Jeff Healey and later, Melissa Etheridge, Philip has gone on to establish a successful solo career with a stellar reputation as a player, writer and singer. He’s a fan of vintage Strats, Tube Screamers, wah-wah, vibe and fuzz, which reveals his principle influences, after which he goes way beyond. It’s a trip to sit down and chat with him.
Enjoy the show!

Philip’s signal chain explained…
We’ve listed Philip’s pedals in signal-flow order below. For today’s show, there’s a GigRig Humdinger after the last pedal that splits the signal to two amps: the Tommy Cougar 50 watt (and 2x12 EV-loaded cab) and Mick’s Two-Rock Classic Reverb signature which is driving the Fender Vibratone rotary speaker cabinet. Philip doesn’t tour with a Vibratone these days, but he used to, and we thought he might like it! (He did).
Big thanks to Matt Schofield for the loan of the Vibratone!

A note on the audio from Mick…
This is a very challenging guitar tone to record in our environment. Super loud, full-out, everything cranked. There’s plenty of room mics in the mix, but it does indeed sound soooo much better in a bigger room and when experienced in person. We do what we can!
