That Pedal Show – Pedal Sized Amps: EHX Magnum 44, Seymour Duncan PS170 & Vox MV50AC

In this video we try out some alternatives to a traditional guitar amp head and ask how they feel and sound.
You might need such a product as a spare or emergency contingency should your main amp go down; you might want to base a (physically) tiny rig around one; or you may want to augment your existing setup with wet/dry or even wet/dry/wet capabilities. We discuss of the above.
Any one of these units is small enough to be mounted on your pedalboard… as long as you have a speaker cable long enough to reach your cabinet.
We try each of the tiny amps with three common types of front end/OD: a standard overdrive pedal; a dedicated valve preamp; and a non-valve pedal which is a mix of the two.
PLEASE NOTE: The Vox MV50AC gets some criticism for not having much clean headroom. It should be noted that we're using it at the 16-ohm / 12.5 watt power setting. For the full 50 watts and (presumably) more clean headroom, you need to use a 4-ohm speaker load.
PLEASE ALSO NOTE: This video is NOT about speaker emulation or playing direct. It’s about using pedal-sized alternatives to an amp head. You still require a speaker for what we’re talking about today.
Thank you for watching… Please enjoy the video!
