Determined to buy yet another totally impractical amplifier, Mick heads off to try some classic Marshalls

Welcome to the show! Yeah I know. It might be April Fool's Day but this is no joke! It's an indulgence, a crazy notion – a 100-watt Marshall in 2025?! But I think it’s doable.

Dan and I have been enjoying the sheer heft of a 100-watt Marshall of late… and many people may well assume that’s all about balls-out, dimed heavy rock. Not so much for me personally. I’ve become fascinated by what these beasts can offer as a cleaner pedal platform. Not ‘clean’ per se, clean-er. Cleaner so you can still run your wet effects in the front, and juice it up with a nice overdrive pedal, a boost and a fuzz. It’s a sound!

Massive thanks to the kind people at Overdrive Guitars for being the kind of enablers the world actually needs. https://overdriveguitars.com/

I'll get asked these questions a lot, so will answer here....
Q: Why not a more modern Marshall?
A: The simpler the better for me.

Q: Why not a modern boutique version from a newer brand?
A: I'm emotionally attached to the real thing and derive huge pleasure from seeing it.

Q: Why not use an attenuator?
A: Totally could work at very subtle levels. But too subtle to warrant the hassle. Once you stop down an amp too hard, it stops being the amp.

Enjoy the show!
